Wholesale Market
- Bangkok
At both Pratunam and Bobae markets you will find companies
that takes care of shipping services to send your cargo worldwide.
This makes shopping less trouble some. Markets open everyday. |
Pratunam
Market - Bangkok
An easy to reach well know wholesale shopping market that basically offers
clothes. Shops do sell retail but the price is much higher and they
are not so eager to sell. To get wholesale price you'll need to buy at
least 3 pieces of the same item or else you get retail price.
Conveniently centered at the corner of Rathchaprarop and New
Petchaburi Roads but it covers a much broader area extending up
Rathchaprarop to the Indra Hotel. It includes a vast covered
area bounded by these streets called "City Complex". Walking distance
from World Trade Center and Panthip Plaza. Thailand's tallest building
(Baiyoke 2 Tower) is part of the market. |
|
|
Bobae Market
- Bangkok
Another wholesale Bangkok shopping venue. he same pricing rule like Pratunam Market applies here
too. Bobae market is well known to be the center of garment wholesale
for over 30 years. It's a pretty sizable market with part of it out
doors = hot and sweaty and part of it in Bobae Tower = air conditioned
market. You can get really good bargains early morning at about 5:00
am these stalls that come early don't have to pay for rent so their
cost is cheaper. Easiest way to reach Bobae Market is through the
speed boat at Khlong Saen Sab (Saen Sab Canal) their are many piers to
get on it however the easy one would be the Pratunam Pier (opposite of
World Trade Center) under the small canal bridge.

Chatuchak
Weekend Market - Bangkok
Also called JJ (called in short by the local people). One of the world's largest "flea markets". Over 8,600 stalls and
vendors spread across 28 acres, selling to over 200,000 people on
Saturday and Sunday from 7AM to 6PM. It is said that what you don't
find in JJ you cannot find any where else in Thailand. You'll be
amazed by the things sold there insects (beetles, spiders), reptiles
(snakes, baby crocodiles), plants, clothes, eatables etc..
Advice: JJ is opened only on weekends and the best time to be
there is before noon. Afternoons are hot and crowded with shoppers and
shops start closing from 5 pm onwards. You must beware of pick pockets
a lot of cases are reported every week. Our advice to you the gents is
to keep your valuables specially money in the front pocket. As for the
ladies try to keep you bags and purses in front of you. If by any
chance you happen to be the victim report to the nearest police
station. In many cases important documents are returned (passport, ID
etc.) while the valuables are missing. The most convenient way to get
to JJ is by BTS sky train getting down at Mo Chit station (terminal
station). Buses that get there are No: 8, 44 |
